July Update
The Georgia summer is in full swing in all its humid glory! After a few weeks of unseasonably dry weather in late May & early June, summer storms have provided plenty of rain for the new native shrubs, ferns, and perennials which were planted in the spring. Native plants are an important food source for birds and other wildlife. An application is pending with Georgia Audubon to have Walter’s Woods approved as a wildlife habitat.
Beginning in May, monthly workdays in Walter’s Woods have presented an opportunity for neighbors to learn more about our green space, and to help continue removing ivy, liriope, privet, and other invasive plants.
Volunteers also mow the grass, weed paths, and remove fallen limbs. Workdays are held from 9-11 am on the second Saturday of each month; see the Events calendar for details. Your participation is always welcome and appreciated!
